Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football and community service. The first is the Selmon family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on a Eufala farm. A second reason was he is the youngest of three brothers to play with Oklahoma. Three brothers all made All-Americans. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi Award for being the top lineman in America. He was awarded two championships as well as the score was 32-1-1 over his three seasons as Oklahoma's main man. He was awarded a third scholarship in 1975, and was named as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon has a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Fourth year of the college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. He settled down in Tampa following college. He played with the Buccaneers for a period of nine years, and was three-times all-pro. His career in business began. In 1988, as an account relations officer at First Florida Bank of Tampa and worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored him in 1982 as being one of the top 10 youths in the US. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 7-foot-2. In his time at college, he was the captain of the team of 1975. In 1993, he was a part of the University of South Florida as an associate director of athletics. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
