Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada but grew up in the U.S. She's been an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency provides videos, comments and an analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit educational site that explores gender representation in popular cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her primary goals. However, Sarkeesian also explores the issue of targeted harassment against women online as well as other communities who are left out. Sarkeesian who has the degree of Master's in the field of Social and Political thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a popular public speaking. She has spoken at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Since her early years Sarkeesian was captivated by the issue of gender identity and feminist thought. As a student, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. This ambitious woman planned to create an online series on the role of gender in games and was then the victim of an online harassment campaign. The woman was not stopped by the assault, actually, it just reinforced her desire to become feminist and media critic. To honor the numerous contributions she has made to feminism, she is the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media critic. She was also the director and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores pop culture gender representations.
